Plenty of fun in this neck of the woods

Tucked away on Cobb Court, the Swan Hill Woodworkers Club is another community organisation excited to be back and running at full capacity.

Starting 21 years ago at what was the old Mitre 10 building, the club has moved locations a few times, but found a home at 3/7 Cobb Court a decade ago.

Three founding members still remain at the club, with current membership numbers sitting just below 20, and they are always looking for new members to join.

The club has had limited support in terms of funding and have sourced the funding for the majority of their equipment and supplies by completing jobs for people.

Prior experience of woodwork is not necessary with the diversification of members including those with experience as a butcher, farmer, council worker, engineer, school teacher and a chef.

The majority of their work includes repairing furniture such as tables and chairs but they are also heavily involved in the Swan Hill community and have completed projects for a variety of groups.

They built the garden beds for the Swan Hill Specialist School garden and have also worked on projects for Bunnings, the library, scouts, guides and the hospital op shop.

While the work side of the shed is an important factor the of the club, equally as important is the social aspect of the club, with this being a good opportunity for members to get together and have a chat while working on a hobby.

The Swan Hill Woodworkers Club meets every Wednesday from 9am to midday before having a break for lunch and resuming at 1 to 4.30pm.

Anybody who is interested in becoming part of the club is welcome to head along and no experience is necessary, members will be more than happy to teach you skills you would like to learn.
