Exciting new chapterfor mobile library

A NEW Swan Hill library outreach vehicle will hit the road from July 26, replacing the current ageing mobile library.

Libraries manager Camille Cullinan said smaller outlying communities can enjoy an expanded mobile library service, thanks to the new outreach vehicle.

“Our new van will allow us to offer more programs and activities on visits to rural communities, expand the home delivery service for older people and attend more community events,” she said.

“The van will replace a 17-year-old vehicle, bringing improved library services to rural communities across 6000 square kilometres, including Beverford, Boundary Bend, Lake Boga, Manangatang, Nyah, Tooleybuc, Ultima and Woorinen,” Ms Cullinan said.

Ms Cullinan said the new vehicle included a veranda that can be set up for outdoor events and activities.

“The new outreach vehicle is a free resource for people living in our municipality and includes a wheelchair lift, so it is accessible for everyone,” she said.

“Our new library outreach operator, Damien Murray, is looking forward to expanding the services that the program offers – including the addition of a new hot water service for some cuppa stopovers, too,” she added.

The new vehicle is funded by the Victorian Government’s Living Libraries Infrastructure Program and Swan Hill Rural City Council.
