Time to givefor sick kids

RONALD McDonald House Charities Victoria and Tasmania are urging the public to open their hearts and wallets for seriously ill children and their families on Matched Giving Day Appeal.

This will be the 35th year of the appeal, with all proceeds going to RMHC.

It will be held from midday on Thursday this week and run through to midday Friday.

All money raised will be matched by the corporate supporters of the charity.

Over the years, the day has raised over $500,000 for sick kids and their families across Victoria and Tasmania.

“We’re aiming for the Stronger Together Appeal to be our largest ever single day fundraiser” RMHC Victoria and Tasmania chief executive officer Peter Bishop said.

“Families tell us they can’t imagine what they would have done without Ronald McDonald House.

“We’ve been supporting families across Australia for 35 years, and funds raised on the day will ensure that this vital, family-centred care will continue long into the future.”

There are three Ronald McDonald Houses in Victoria, including in Parkville next to the Royal Children’s Hospital, North Fitzroy next to Casa Elda Vaccari and Monash next to Monash Children’s Hospital.

Regional families with sick children need safe and reliable accommodation while their child undergoes treatment in the city.

The three houses in Melbourne have provided a home-away-from-home for more than 440,000 sick kids since its inception in 1986.

Families are not charged to stay in these houses, but it costs $160 per night to support them.

A night in one of the houses means access to kitchens, education and a five-minute walk to visit their children.

RMHC Victoria and Tasmania’s goal for the Stronger Together Appeal is to raise enough funds for 1500 nights of accommodation at one of the houses.

To donate, visit the stronger together appeal website or phone 03 9966 8420 during the 24 hours of the appeal.
