Farm gate trail to lure visitors

FARM gates in the Swan Hill municipality are being encouraged to join a new trail to boost visitation to the region.

Initiated by Swan Hill Inc, the farm gate trail will cover farms from Robinvale in the north to Lake Boga in the south, and every dirt road in between.

Swan Hill Inc is responsible for marketing and promoting the Swan Hill region as a place to visit, shop, live and work, through programs, events and promotions.

Marketing co-ordinator Tameeka Hankin said the organisation is seeking more farm gates to add to the growing list.

“We are wanting to make people aware of the different locations you can buy produce from at the region’s farm gates/produce stalls,” she told The Guardian.

“We are trying to come up with new initiatives to increase visitation to the region and length of stays.”

Each farm gate will have an A frame poster out the front of their property, which will include a QR code to scan.

“Tourists can stop there and purchase local produce,” Ms Hankin said.

There will be no cost or donation required from farm gates that participate.

“We have the main farm gates included so far, but we know there are hidden gems out there that locals will know of,” she said.

The 15 participating farm gates so far include Robinvale Wines, Olive Grove, Chislett Farms, Andrew Peace Wines, Annie’s Place, Dolly Daze, Buller Wines, Morpeth Farms, Syd’s Private Collection, Finders Keepers Barn, Art and Soul, Newton’s Wonderful World, Arose Again, Lake Boga Farms and Roda Fruits.

When launched, the trail map will be available online and printed copies at the Swan Hill Region Information Centre.

Farm gates keen on participating, should contact Tameeka Hankin on 0407 826 177 or e-mail, marketing@visitswanhill.com.au
