AFTER two long years, the Swan Hill show is set to make its COVID-19 comeback.
Swan Hill District Agricultural and Pastoral Society president Reg Packer said it was a great feeling knowing the gates were set to open to the public at 9am.
“It’s all systems go,” an excited Mr Packer said.
Rain, hail or shine, it’s full steam ahead for the committee who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the 125th show is a huge success.
Mr Packer said the weather had provided a few challenges in the lead-up to the event, but conceded the rain would do little to dampen the spirits of those attending, with a huge showcase of events, entertainment and exhibits set to delight showgoers of all ages.
It’s been a wet week in the lead-up to the event.
Swan Hill recorded 40mm between Monday and Wednesday, with 18.6mm of rain on Monday and a further 17.4mm on Wednesday.
Despite the rain, Mr Packer said the grounds were good at this stage.
“We’re lucky we are on a hill and it’s all draining away,” Mr Packer said, noting he was still keeping a close eye on the radar.
“We may have to put some modifications in place to the program depending on the weather but for the time being, everything is going ahead.”
The event is also expected to provide a much-need cash injection into the town with accommodation houses and businesses set to benefit, drawing competitors and visitors from all over the state.
Hopeful for a huge turnout, Mr Packer said tickets could be purchased at the gate, with no need to pre-book online.
As an added incentive, children under 16 will receive free entry thanks to a state government initiative to support agricultural shows, as part of the COVID-19 recovery package.
