Find our heroes, says council

SWAN Hill residents are being encouraged to nominate local heroes in the 2023 Australia Day local government awards.

The awards provide an opportunity to recognise and celebrate local community members and groups for their contributions and achievements within their communities.

Nominations fall into three categories:

● Australia Day Citizen Award – a person who has succeeded in a significant individual achievement or a number of service activities over a significant period of years.

● Australia Day Young Citizen Award – a person under the age of 30 on January 26, 2023, who has attained an outstanding personal achievement or made a significant contribution to the community.

● To a person, group or organisation with a particular achievement, service, special event, or valuable contribution within the local community during the past year.

Swan Hill Rural City Council chief executive Scott Barber said the council was looking forward to celebrating the achievements of individuals and organisations.

“Every year we are amazed by the efforts of people within our community,” he said.

“These nominations are such a wonderful example of people working to improve the lives of those around them, and strengthening our communities and clubs.”

“Unfortunately, last year, we only received nominations for the Australia Day Citizen Award category and neither of the other categories, so I would really encourage people to take advantage of this opportunity to celebrate our local community members – they may be more eligible than you think.”

Nominations close on November 24.

Nomination forms are available on the council’s website and at council offices in Swan Hill and Robinvale. Awards will be presented on Australia Day.
