Town backs Royal Childrens Hospital effort

THE Good Friday Appeal for the Royal Children’s Hospital is a fundraiser that Tooleybuc gets behind, producing a surprising amount of money.

While there won’t be the ever-popular spinning wheel this year, the Tooleybuc Sporting Club will host a raffle of donated prizes, including Easter baskets, paintings and car oil, to name some.

Event organiser Tracey Domaille said the Good Friday Appeal was normally well supported by local people.

“I can’t expect you to imagine how big it is,” she told The Guardian.

Despite having a population of about 300, last year Tooleybuc raised just over $13,000 for the appeal and averages about $10,000 a year.

This year will be Ms Domaille’s 15th year running the Tooleybuc effort, which she took over after her uncle’s death.

She said each year she was surprised and humbled at the generosity of local people and businesses in donating goods.

“The cause sells itself. You don’t realise until you are out there asking for donations how many people have been affected or how many people have been rescued by the Royal Children’s.

“I had a visit there. The first year I officially ran the appeal here my son swallowed a coin, so we ended up in an aeroplane to the Royal Children’s.”

The Good Friday Appeal raffle will be drawn on Thursday night from 7.30pm at the Tooleybuc Sporting Club.
