Bank’s donation will ‘go a long way’ at neighbourhood house

VOLUNTEERS at Swan Hill’s neighbourhood house have received a CommBank community donation as part of the bank’s community investment initiative.

The neighbourhood house was chosen to receive the donation by a yearly vote conducted on the Commonwealth Bank website.

Sarina Kelly said the donation was received at a great time, with the house having completed works to the front of the building.

“We’ve always got costs here and our funding doesn’t cover everything,” Ms Kelly said.

“We recently had the driveway extension completed.

“This donation will go a long way to help us cover those costs.

“We had been working on that for a while.

“It’s really resolved a huge issue we’ve had.

“This has improved access to the facility, so that’s great.”

The Commonwealth Bank is set to distribute $900,000 through this year’s donations, almost tripling the $350,0000 it provided to community groups in 2022.

Swan Hill CommBank branch manager Caitlin Woodford said she was proud to recognise the work volunteers contributed at the house.

“We’re really proud to see that the customers have recognised that the neighbourhood house here is making a a big difference to the community,” Ms Woodford said.

“It’s really good to be able to make a difference, especially choosing charities who are not-for-profit and seeing the difference we can make.”

Fay Taylor said neighbourhood houses could always use more community assistance.

“We have to fundraise for practically everything we do,” Ms Taylor said.

“Donations can be used for practically anything here.

“Those who donate are able to nominate what they want the money to be used for.”

CommBank’s Emma Ierace said giving back to the community was rewarding.

“All of our customers are like a big family in our local community – everyone knows each other,” Ms Ierace said.

“It’s nice to be able to give back to them and bond over something that can help everyone.”
