THE famous television soap opera set on a Melbourne street tells us that everybody needs good neighbours, but at a Neighbourhood House, you become good friends.
And it’s that friendship that strengthens communities, with this year’s Neighbourhood House Week celebrating the theme of Locals Connecting Locals.
Starting Monday, May 8, more than 1000 Neighbourhood Houses across Australia will mark the week-long festivities, including at Swan Hill.
In Victoria alone, there are more than 400 Neighbourhood Houses that collectively provided $1.1 million in value every day to their communities.
The Swan Hill Neighbourhood House is at 98-100 Gray Street.
Throughout Neighbourhood House week, the Mallee Neighbourhood House Network will support activities throughout the 14 Mallee Neighbourhood Houses. Everyone has been encouraged to call in to explore opportunities and to connect to their community.
There will be morning teas, community walks, barbecues, come and try sessions, guest speakers and more.
The Swan Hill Neighbourhood House will host a tour of its facilities, followed by a short presentation and afternoon tea on Monday, May 8, from 2pm-3pm.
Neighbourhood House Week is also a great opportunity to find out more about regular programs running locally such us craft groups, computer classes, community gardens or reach out to become involved in starting up a new initiative.
