Cuppa, cop and cake

RESIDENTS of Lake Boga are invited to a cuppa ‘n cake, staged by the Lake Boga community Garden group each month.

Held at the Station Street garden, on the site of the old railway station, the community is encouraged to share beverages and cakes ad listen to a community speaker.

Monday morning’s speaker was acting Senior Sergeant Roberta Barry, from Swan Hill police.

Senior Sergeant Barry has lived in the area for around 20 years. She talked about community policing and emphasised how important that community engagement is to enable police to do their job.

“Anything to do with the neighborhoods and the public are so important because this is where we get most of our information from and who all our information goes out to,” Snr-Sgt Barry said.

“They’re the people we rely on more than anything else. We are trying to engage the community more than we have previously.”

The community group has an average age of around 70 years old and is responsible for establishing seven community gardens around Lake Boga.

They lease the land for their Station Street garden from GrainCorp for $1 per year, which includes the water that is required to keep the gardens looking great.
