Join the fight against cancer

AN average of 695 people are diagnosed with cancer in Swan Hill every year.

And a cancer diagnosis doesn’t just affect the single person – it has a ripple effect, impacting many people in their lives.

Daffodil Day, which falls on Thursday, August 31 this year, is all about raising vital funds for Cancer Council’s life-saving cancer treatment.

Cancer Council Victoria’s Head of Fundraising Lyrian Fleming-Parsley said that each person who donates or buy daffodils on the day helps the organisation continue to invest in that treatment.

“Cancer takes so much – from all of us,” she said.

“It takes from our friends, neighbours, colleagues, and our family. By giving this Daffodil Day, we can help stop cancer taking so much.”

Lake Boga’s Nicki Taylor was inspired to sell daffodils locally on Daffodil Day over the past few years after one of her friend’s daughters became sick with cancer, and felt that this was the best way she could help.

“Every family is touched by cancer in some way, or if not a family member, a friend,” Ms Taylor told The Guardian.

2023 is the 37th Daffodil Day, and this year Victorians are encouraged to give it their all.

“We can give for all the people who have been affected by a cancer diagnosis, whether that’s you, or someone close to you,” Ms Fleming-Parsley said.

“Giving, that’s what Daffodil Day is all about.”

Nicki Taylor will be selling flowers on Daffodil Day on Thursday, August 31, at the Lake Boga Cafe, Lake Boga Hotel, Lake Boga Post Office, and Bowser Bean in Swan Hill.

To support Daffoldil Day by donating or buying flowers, visit www.daffodilday.com.au, or call 1300 65 65 85.
