Father’s Day raffle

The winner of the Swan Hill Red Cross Father’s Day raffle was Trevor Sanford who collected his prize from the members of the branch at their monthly meeting at the Swan Hill Club last Friday.

Although the group is small, and dwindling due to lack of volunteers, the group of active senior volunteers, as they like to be called, are busy fundraising in the community.

The Father’s Day raffle raised $802, with the dedicated group of six spending three days outside Bunnings selling tickets.

Mr Sanford said he was very surprised when he found out he had won.

“I didn’t even buy the ticket, the boss did,” he laughs.

“But I’m certainly going to enjoy the chocolates.”

Red Cross Swan Hill branch president, Kaye Elford, said anyone interested in helping to support the group is welcome. They meet at the Swan Hill Club on the first Friday of each month.

“The Swan Hill club generously lets us have the meeting facilities for free,” Ms Elford said.

“The function of the Red Cross has always remained the same and that is to provide food, shelter and medical support for those in need.

“We believe that a city the size of Swan Hill is capable of assisting the local branch to continue to support and promote the Australian Red Cross in our community.”
