Swan Hill Show draws crowds and success

THE roosters were in fine voice as they welcomed show-goers to the 2023 Swan Hill Show, crowing from their pavilion at the entrance to the showground.

Large crowds came out to enjoy two days of family fun and events.

The ever-popular sideshow alley was alive with rides with names to entice the thrillseeker, like The Claw, Kamikaze, Cha Cha and Midnight Madness.

Traditional favorites were not left out, with dodgem cars, shooting galleries and the good old-fashioned clowns still enticing show-goers.

There was a great array of food available as time-honoured show staples such as dagwood dogs, chips and fairy floss were joined by myriad food trucks to start new traditions as the show catered to a newer generation.

Pavilions were bustling with those keen to see the handicrafts, cakes and cooking that had been entered.

Alicia Hewitt was the lucky winner of the $500 cash prize for a pre-sale ticket presented by Whitfield Excavations.

Ms Hewitt said she planned to put the money to good use by spending most of it at the show to have even more fun with her family.

Over on the Tyntynder Oval the working dogs were put through their paces and the Mallee Cruisers car club had a fine display of vehicles of all types.

Entertainment certainly wasn’t in short supply as the full program included the very popular Noah’s Thoroughbred Racing Pigs piglet races which each year help to raise money for a local fire station.

Mel O’Loughlin from the Swan Hill Show Society said it was a great success and the whole thing ran smoothly.

“We were really lucky with the weather and everyone seemed to have a great time,” Ms O’Loughlin said.

“Our numbers through the gates were up from last year and we are very happy with the outcome of the Whitfield Excavation Swan Hill Show.

“There were a number highlights, which included Whitfield Excavations signing on as our platinum sponsor and continuing on for next year.

“This year the Miniature Horse show was a first-timer at our show and was entertaining and very interactive with the audience.

“The variety of food and trade vendors was impressive and was well supported by the attendees, and the fireworks were awesome.

“The Swan Hill District Agricultural and Pastoral Society members and volunteers worked extremely hard and long hours to pull all this together and they must be thanked and recognised.”
