Community comes to pool party

NYAH District Community Swimming Pool is raising funds for a new shed just before the pool season ends.

With more than $15,000 raised so far, the Nyah Pool Committee is hoping it reaches its target of over $25,000 to replace an outdated shed.

Nyah Pool Committee secretary-treasurer Pamela Paynter said the present shed had been difficult to manage.

“It’s rusty and old and doesn’t have a concrete floor, which doesn’t help keep things clean,” she said.

The shed has limited storage space, a leaking roof, and doors that are hard to open.

“The ceiling is very low so for anybody wanting to get in, there’s the risk of them bumping their head,” Ms Paynter said.

“It’s just outdated and doesn’t meet our needs.”

Ms Paynter said a new shed would be more secure and make access easier for volunteers and swimming instructors.

“And a nice-looking shed in the corner, instead of the one we have right now, will also add to the look of the place.”

She said taking care of the pool was important as it was also used by people from surrounding towns such as Tooleybuc, Koraleigh, Piangil and Wood Wood that lack a community pool.

The committee has been planning for a new shed for the past two years and organised fundraising applications for government grants to get the shed up as soon as they can.

“We’ve got a very hardworking committee and they’re always looking around to see how they can make our facility a better place for our community,” Ms Paynter said.

She thanked community donors.

“We’ve been really amazed that people in the community have raised so much.

“We’ve also had people come to the pool and hand over a $100 note towards the shed before they left.”

Donations can be received online at gofund.me/896adce9 and cash donations can be received at Nyah District Community Swimming Pool.
