Colour them happy in Tempy

THERE was an explosion of colour at Tempy on Sunday when residents joined together for the town’s inaugural colour run.

The colour run was the brainchild of 12-year-old Memphis Shean, who wanted to create a fun-filled event for her local community.

The concept came to Memphis towards the end of last year during a brainstorming session with her family.

It didn’t take long for her vision to become a reality, and with strong support from her local community, Memphis began to put plans into place.

Her dedication and commitment was rewarded at the weekend in a colourful celebration which will also help brighten the lives of those impacted by the Pomonal bushfire last month.

“I know people around there and wanted to help,” Memphis said, noting that she was preparing to travel to the town in the coming weeks to hand-deliver proceeds from her event.

“They don’t know that I’ve raised the money so it’s going to be a big surprise.”

The colour run raised $2485 for the Pomonal Bushfire Recovery — an amazing achievement considering the Tempy township has a population of 57 people.

“I’m very thankful for the generous donations,” Memphis said.

“The day was amazing.

“I was so excited and didn’t expect so many people to come.”

From completing colourful laps of the oval to a raffle, face painting and yabby races, the family-orientated day had all the makings of a successful event.

And having had a taste of that success, Memphis says she hopes to see the event return in the near future.

“I’d like to make it an annual thing but next time I’d try to organise something a little different,” she said.
