Fundraising for Parkinson’s a walk in the park

More than 60 people took part in the 2024 Parkinson’s Park Walk at Riverside Park on Sunday morning.

This is the second year the event has been held locally, and people from all ages and abilities, along with a few four legged friends, turned out to show their support and help raise funds for Parkinson’s Victoria.

Russell Wardle, a Swan Hill local, and an organiser, is one of 27,000 Victorians afflicted with one of the progressive neurological conditions that fall into the Parkinson’s disease category.

He thanked all the groups that had come together to help make the walk a possibility.

Joint organiser and Russell’s wife Julie said the walk was planned to start at Riverside Park and generally goes to the wetlands and back.

“However, if people could only manage a turn around the park that was fine as well,” Ms Wardle said.

The Swan Hill Hospice Committee was on hand to feed the hungry walkers, barbecuing up a storm with sausages provided by Doey’s Meats.

By the end of the day the group had exceeded their goal of $2000, and raised $3870, with $1633 of that raised on the day.

Donations can still be made online at

The next fundraiser for the group will be a Trivia night on May 15 at the Swan Hill Club. Registrations and bookings for the night can be made by contacting the Swan Hill Club directly.
