Show finals a real treat

MANY Swan Hill contestants competed in various categories of the Northern District Agricultural Show’s group finals at The Hub at Swan Hill Racecourse Bowls Club last Sunday.

The winners of the regional finals will compete in the state finals at the Melbourne Show in September.

Victorian Agricultural Shows consists of 100 Victorian rural and regional agricultural societies, which exhibit in 115 shows and 10 agricultural field days throughout the year.

VAS also runs 29 statewide competitions, to showcase regional Victoria’s livestock, homecraft, cooking and much more.

The Swan Hill winners and highly commended exhibitors from the weekend include:

NDAS junior cooking: Sophie Sutton, third, boiled fruit cake; Cleo Mason, highly commended, boiled fruit cake; Sophie Sutton and Liam Steer, highly commended, chocolate cake; Liam Steer, highly commended, decorated cupcakes.

NDAS cooking: Diane Steer, first, chocolate mud cake; Liz Cox, second, Anzac biscuits.

NDAS handcraft: Liz Cox, third, one person’s work.

VAS junior photography: Eden Moloney, second and highly commended, “Animals in Action”.

VAS cooking: Liz Cox, highly commended, rich fruit cake.

VAS sewing: Liz Cox, first, wearable vest.

VAS fleece competition: Dylan Fox, first, strong wool.
