Sunday markets return

THE Swan Hill Sunday markets are making their much-awaited return to Riverside Park on Sunday, July 7, at 9am and going through till 1pm.

Absent since February this year, the markets are now under the management of Swan Hill’s own We Believe in Unicorns charity.

Swan Hill City Council director of community and cultural services Bruce Myers said the new-look market would take place on the first Sunday of each month.

“The Swan Hill Market is proudly managed by the local charity We Believe in Unicorns, a not-for-profit organisation that is dedicated to raising funds to assist parents in seeking the best medical care when their child becomes ill,” Mr Myers said.

“Importantly, all funds raised remain in the region, directly benefiting the community.

“The Swan Hill market volunteer committee is made up of dedicated individuals committed to making this event a success”.

We Believe in Unicorns president John Daniel said the committee aimed to bring together a vibrant array of local produce, vintage memorabilia, clothing, jewellery, antiques, collectibles, crafts and more.

“Visitors to the market can look forward to a lively atmosphere filled with music, fashion and food, creating a perfect outing for the whole family,” Mr Daniel said.

“Whether you are looking to shop for unique items, enjoy delicious local cuisine or simply soak up the community spirit, our new-look Swan Hill Market promises to provide something for everyone.”

The dedicated committee of five has pulled out all stops to have the new market organised since its first meeting in May.

Market co-ordinators Jan Hurley and Karen Mott said there were more than 30 stallholders already on board and they expected further applications before the cut-off date of June 28.

Ms Mott said everybody was excited and very supportive, with Swan Hill Lions Club and Sunrise Rotary club taking alternate months to conduct the traditional barbecue breakfast.

Ms Hurley and Ms Mott said they wanted to make sure people realised that by supporting the market and the stallholders they were also supporting an important fundraiser for the charity, with all fees from stallholders going to support local families.

“The more stallholders we can attract, the better the markets will be, and the fund pot will also benefit,” Ms Hurley said.

Potential stallholders can apply online at www.swanhillmarket.com.au
