Mown away by generosity

THE Ultima Progress Association is getting a brand-new lawnmower after the volunteer group received a grant.

The group applied for a Volunteer Grant from the Community Grants Hub last year which provides up to $5000 in funding to volunteer groups in regional areas.

President of the Ultima Progress Association Vivienne Wilson said they were glad they could receive the maximum amount that could be offered.

Ms Wilson said volunteers in Ultima had been using their own equipment to maintain the main street, areas near the railway, the cenotaph and the cemetery.

“The people who volunteer in town won’t have to use their own equipment at their own expense,” Ms Wilson said.

“It’s nice to have something there for the maintenance of the main street and cemetery.

“There will be a lot of benefits to the town in the long run.”

Ms Wilson also thanked Warren Pryor from Swan Hill Power Products for providing them with the lawnmower at a discounted price.

Mr Pryor said he was glad to be able to help volunteer groups as they were an important presence in regional towns.

“I’ve always tried to help out volunteer groups like the Ultima Progress Association because it’s hard work getting funding and there’s a lot of people putting in lots of unpaid hours as volunteers,” Mr Pryor said.

“I don’t need to make money out of every mower I sell because I’m happy to help out where needed.”
