Lions host Christmas lunch for elderly

The elderly in the Nyah District came together this winter to celebrate Christmas in July.

The Nyah District Lions Club provided a free lunch and dessert for 22 elderly people who live on their own.

The lunch was held at the Bowling Clubrooms in Nyah West.

The clubrooms were decorated with a Christmas theme, and there were games and activities.

“It was a lovely day,” Nyah District Lions Club president Ian Brauer said. “People were able to get together and talk about the old days.”

Mr Brauer said the event was important as there were elderly people in the community who had lost their partners.

“They don’t really go out, so doing this is a good way to get them out of the house,” he said.

“The men also got to enjoy a well cooked meal since a lot of the men are not good cooks themselves.

“The annual event is greatly appreciated by those present and gets many older community members together as a group.”

The Christmas cake was cut by the the oldest male and female attending the event.

Mr Brauer said the Lions members and other helpers cooked the food and waited on the guests.

The Lions Club plans on repeating the event next year.
