WITH baked goods as far as the eye could see, Swan Hill Racecourse Bowls Club raised $2567 for an MRI machine at the Racecourse Cancer Morning Tea on Thursday.
With 140 people in attendance, president of the Racecourse Bowls Club Mary Hooper said organisers were very pleased with the turnout.
“We all know someone who has been impacted either directly or indirectly by cancer,” Ms Hooper said.
“It’s nice to see so many people here, knowing that all of the money will support local families that are fighting cancer.”
Ms Hooper said she hoped Swan Hill would be able to acquire an MRI machine.
“We know so many people who could benefit from it,” she said.
“They wouldn’t have to struggle with time and costs for travel and accommodation.”
Attendees paid $20 entry for a morning of food and tea provided by Sharon Parsons from Any Occasion Katering and were also entered into a raffle to win lucky door prizes.
“We do run other events to raise funds but this event is Sharon’s baby,” Ms Hooper said.
“She has donated the food, made all of it by herself.”
Ms Hooper also thanked Beryl Ryan and members of the Swan Hill Racecourse Bowls Club for organising the day.
Guest speakers McGrath Foundation breast care nurse Leanne Bibby and Swan Hill District Health cancer care co-ordinator Emma Brown were also present to raise awareness about cancer services available in Swan Hill.
