Lanterns to light the night in Robinvale

COLOURFUL lights will illuminate Robinvale’s streets next Friday for the annual Lantern Festival celebration.

Event organiser Jack Dang said reactions to past events were fantastic, especially from the Asian community as the festival was a representation of culture and traditions.

“All previous events have been good, well-received, and have had excellent turnouts,” he said.

“There will be a lot of cultural food, entertainment and plenty of colourful lights.

“There are different things that people can’t really see elsewhere.

“All are welcome to the event as it’s a very family-oriented event.”

The event is based around the Chinese Moon Festival celebration which marks the beginning of harvest season in the northern hemisphere and will feature lanterns of all shapes and sizes that symbolise lighting the path to prosperity and good fortune.

Mr Dang said would also be a wide range of entertainment and something for everyone.

“There is a lantern competition which the kids really love,” he said.

“The winner gets a cash prize and a donation is made to the winner’s community organisation of choice.

“The event will offer many things and be a bit of a break from the winter hibernation.”

The event will begin at 5pm on Perrin Street in Robinvale on Friday, September 13.

Because the festival occurs on one of the spookiest days of the year, children are also encouraged to wear their scariest costumes to the event.
