Christmas cheer for deserving volunteers

FOOD relief initiative A Good Kitchen has been serving the people of Swan Hill for many years, supporting the community by providing a free meal each week.

With a growing number of volunteers each year, it is important these local heroes don’t go without recognition.

As times have been tough recently, there has been an uptake of people needing that little bit of extra support and the volunteers at A Good Kitchen have been there to ensure a fresh meal is on the table if needed. 

With the busy Christmas period nearly here, the volunteers were able to sit down and have their own private Christmas dinner as a token of appreciation for all the work

they have done over the year.

All of the volunteers from A Good Kitchen came together on November 21 to share a Christmas dinner at St Mary’s function room to acknowledge all the hard work they’ve put in.

St Vincent de Paul president Brian Richardson said event was held ahead of the Christmas dinner and toy drive for community taking place later in December.

“We provide dinners for our volunteers each week however the Christmas dinner is a great opportunity for all our volunteers to come together to celebrate all they have achieved throughout the year.

“Their contributions of time and effort ensures the program runs smoothly and all community benefits.

“Whether it is preparing or cooking the meals or helping with the clean up, without our volunteers there would be no program.” 

As the holiday season continues to ramp up, the volunteers at A Good Kitchen will remain as committed as ever to serving others, helping to ensure that everyone has a place at the table this Christmas.
