Sea Lake party’s serious side

SEA Lake will be a hive of activity this Friday afternoon when the town hosts its annual Christmas Street Party. The fun-filled evening aims to provide a social gathering for community members, while promoting local businesses in the lead-up to Christmas, with extended trading hours.

Advance Sea Lake Inc president Jenny Newell said the community event would feature a range of activities, including market stalls, face painting, jumping castle, live music and a free barbecue dinner.

Santa will also make a special appearance throughout the evening, arriving via the Sea Lake CFA truck.

The town’s Christmas lights competition is also in full swing.

Local businesses and residential homes have put together some magical displays, with judging set to take place next week.

While the annual street party aims to bring the local community together for a social gathering, this year will also feature a serious side, coinciding with the launch of the town’s Call Push Shock campaign.

Initiated by Advance Sea Lake, the education program will provide free CPR and defibrillation training.

“We aim to train 300 people within the local community over the next three to four months,” Ms Newell said.

The town has several defibrillators located around the town, including at the sporting complex, main street and St Mary’s church.

Sea Lake ambulance officers will be on site providing the training sessions, which aim to save lives.

“Cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere, which is why it is vital that we all know how to take lifesaving action,” Ambulance Victoria said.

“Call Push Shock is all about building confidence on when to call Triple Zero (000), how to perform CPR and use an automated external defibrillator (AED.”

The hands-on training initiative is supported by the Buloke shire’s Safer Together grant and Ambulance Victoria.
