THE annual Kyalite Fishing Classic is set to make a splash once again, with hundreds of anglers gearing up to compete.
Taking place from February 21 to 23, the event will see hundreds of anglers hit the Wakool River, all aiming to get one of the impressive prizes.
Event organiser Brenten Hogan said last year’s success has fuelLed a more intense competition, with spots filling up for record attendance.
“The competition is growing each year,” he said.
“In 20 days, we filled all the spots with 400 entries.
“This event is becoming quite popular and well-known throughout the region.
“The big prizes draw in big crowds.
“Our sponsors at Pearsons Group help make this event possible.
“We saw upwards of 100 spectators last year and are hoping to see larger numbers this year.
“We’ve got anglers coming from various different states including South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales.
“They are coming from as far as Port Augusta, Gippsland and Sydney to take part.”
This year’s prize pool totals upwards of $60,000, offering plenty of incentives for competitors.
First place winner will be taking home a 430 Mako Craft Estuary Tracker with a 50HP Mercury Motor and trailer package, valued at $37,000.
Other prizes include a 3.7-meter Hunter Marine Tinny, a Honda voucher, and an Engel portable fridge/freezer.
Beyond the competition, the event is expected to attract a strong crowd of spectators who come along to soak up the atmosphere, enjoy some great food, and watch the action unfold on the river.
In collaboration with the fishing competition, the Kyalite Pub will be serving meals throughout the weekend, ensuring competitors and visitors are well-fed throughout the event.
Mr Hogan said the event will also do wonders for the river’s fish population.
“Last year’s success allowed us to put $32,000 worth of fish back in the river, with hopes this year to be bigger,” he said.
With huge prizes, a strong turnout expected, and a great community atmosphere, the 2025 Kyalite Fishing Classic promises an exciting weekend for competitors and spectators alike.
