Holiday fun at the library

SWAN Hill Community Library and Regional Art Gallery have planned activities across the region to keep children entertained throughout the school holidays.

Swan Hill and Robinvale Libraries have daily activities and there will be bear hunts at Lake Boga, Nyah West and Manangatang.

Robyn Patterson will deliver workshops at Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery for primary school aged children on Tuesdays and Thursdays.


Swan Hill Library school holiday program

Children under 12 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Creation station – all holidays

Kids can draw, cut, paste, colour and craft with a variety of materials daily from 10am all holidays.

Explore activity booklets, build unique creations and discover the fun of working with recycled materials like wool, fabric, coloured paper and more.

Teddy’s picnic adventure – all holidays

Kids can search the library for famous bear posters daily from 10am all holidays with the chance to win a $50 Swan Hill Gift Card.

Winner will be drawn April 22.

Build, battle and blast off: Minecraft and VR fun – 1-4pm Monday April 7 and 14

Children aged five and over can explore, build or break things apart at two Minecraft afternoons.

The child-friendly game sparks imagination and creativity, like digital Lego.

Set sail: craft your own wooden boat – 2-3pm Tuesday April 8, $8

Swan Hill Woodworkers Club has provided wooden boat craft kits for children to craft, pain and personalise their own boats.

The hands-on project encourages creativity and children get to keep their one-of-a-kind boats.

Bookings are essential.

Brick by brick: build your imagination – 2-4pm Wednesday April 9 and 16

The free Lego at the library sessions encourage children to complete a challenge or enjoy free play to create something new with their imagination.

Get creative with loom bands – 2-4pm Wednesday April 9 and 16

Beginners and masters of loom band crafting can create jewellery and unique creations.

Loom bands, boards and hooks will be provided.

Twilight Teddy Bear’s Picnic – 7-8pm Wednesday April 9

Put on your PJs and enjoy a special teddy themed Storytime with Nic, including fun action rhymes, crafts and a slice of pizza.

Claymation magic – sculpt your story – 2-3:30pm Thursday April 10

Children can use the library’s iPads and Stop Motion Studio app to bring their clay creations to life.

They can mold figures using colourful modelling clay and make their own short stop-motion video in a creative, hands-on way to explore animation.

Taco boat creations: a flavour adventure – 11am-12pm Friday April 11

Children will listen to a children’s book and make some vegetable taco boats with Bronte from Swan Hill District Community Health.

Bookings are essential.

Build-a-car workshop – 2-3pm Tuesday April 13

Children can build their own wooden car from a kit in a workshop with Zac from Bunnings Swan Hill.

Participants will assemble, decorate and race their custom car.

All materials will be provided.

Bookings are essential.

Children can craft their own bear mask to take home.

Move and groove – 10-11am Thursday April 10 and 17

Children can shake and dance their sillies out with a session of action songs.

Storytime – 11am-12pm Thursday April 10 and 17

Children can join for a story and a craft.

Teddy Bear Picnic story time – 10:30am Saturday April 12

Children can bring their favourite fuzzy friend for a picnic.

Easter egg rock painting – 3-5pm Monday April 14

Children can get ready for Easter and paint a rock like an Easter egg.


Library outreach holiday program

We’re Going on a Bear Hunt

Children can bring their favourite teddy and a picnic, join in the bear hunt and do a hands-on craft.

Free, all ages.

All children to be actively supervised by an adult. Bring hats, sunscreen and water bottles.

Each workshop is $5 per child or free with a Gallery Family Membership

Polar bear mixed media workshop – 10:30-11:30am Tuesday April 8

Children will engage in learning about the polar bear’s natural habitat before creating a magical landscape which includes the Northern Lights and a starry night.

Positive and negative space – 10:30-11:30am Thursday April 10

Children can come and explore how to create a stunning piece of art by learning the process of how to use positive and negative space using oil pastels.

Panda bear collage – 10:30-11:30am Tuesday April 15

Children will tear up coloured pieces of paper and glue them together, creating a panda bear in a bamboo forest.

Easter bunny pots – 10:30-11:30am Thursday April 17

Each child will transform a terracotta pot into an Easter rabbit and choose a packet of seeds from the Seed Library to plant after Easter.
