Winter festive cheer

THE Nyah District Bowls Club’s annual Christmas in July celebration was full of festive spirit last week.

Around 25 attendees gathered for the winter tradition, now in its third year, enjoying an afternoon of indoor games, laughter, and a hearty two-course meal.

Originally set to feature a game using vintage wide-biased bowls, the weather forced a move indoors, where members competed in darts, courts, hookey, and putting challenges.

“We split into four teams and tallied up points, it got quite competitive, but all in good fun,” club member Betty Baily said.

The winning team included Kent Coburn, George White, Simon Wynne and Ray Leach.

Lunch featured a heart-warming, winter ‘one-pot’ dish followed by mini Christmas puddings and custard.

Light-hearted jokes and festive readings rounded out the day, along with prizes for best dressed, which was taken out by Lyndal Taylor and Noel Hender.

While club president Bryan Smith was unable to attend, members from as far as Lake Boga and Manangatang made the trip.

The event also raised valuable funds to support the club through the off-season.

Winter bowls continues each Tuesday until the end of August, and all are welcome.
