Nyah takes a commanding lead

NYAH District has taken a commanding lead against Lakers in the round six Swan Hill District Cricket Association match at Nyah.

Lakers won the toss and chose to bat but got off to a less then desirable start.

The travelling team lost wickets at regular intervals with Michael Boulton taking three top order wickets.

Jason Morrison then cleaned up the tail claiming four wickets — all bowled — including that of Mick Taylor who was the only batsman to provide any resistance scoring a quick fire 22.

After just 30 overs, Lakers were bowled out for 81.

The travelling side’s woes continued as they took the field.

Nyah captain Morrison took to the bowlers and in emphatic fashion reached a quick-fire century that included 14 fours and two sixes.

He was dismissed in just the 26th over by Ryan Callaghan who had Morrison caught in gully by Dean Callaghan.

Shane Fleming continued to plug away at the bowling as he watched partners Justin Toomey (two) and Kent Wooding (12) depart before he too brought up a very measured century.

Travis Perry snared the final wicket of the day having Trent Thompson caught behind by Taylor.

The day’s play finished with Nyah four out for 269.
