RSL bowlers prove too strong

RSL proved too strong with the ball in their match against St Mary’s Tyntynder.

Craig Fletcher and Brad Jones claimed early wickets with the top three batsmen for St Mary’s failing to reach double figures.

Matt Heffer (22) and Brent Daniels (23) combined well to steady the innings until Brenton Caldwell exposed both batsmen’s defences to bowl them out.

It sparked the beginning of the end for St Mary’s as only tailenders Toby Frankel (11) and Logan Mensforth (12) could make significant contributions to the total.

The away team managed to stick out the 40 overs finishing on 111.

Caldwell was the most damaging bowler claiming four with Fletcher snaring the vital top order scalps.

The chase by RSL was reasonably hiccup free.

While Fletcher was dismissed with the total on just 19, Dwayne Hinton(43) posted a 65 run partnership with incoming batsmen Caldwell to set RSL on track to claim the points.

The score was 84 when Hinton departed off the bowling of Sandi Singh but St Mary’s couldn’t restrict the run scoring as Caldwell and Paul Munro almost passed the total before Baljinder Singh deceived Caldwell to have him bowled eight runs from victory.

No more wickets were lost as RSL won the match by seven wickets.
