Grand stage set for close finish

WOORINEN were closing in fast on St Mary’s Tyntynder on the first day’s play in
the Swan Hill District Cricket Association under 17 grand final on Friday at
Tooleybuc Reserve.

After 20 overs each, and with scores locked at 65 and 60,
each team’s effort when they return this Friday night will prove pivotal.

St
Mary’s lost two wickets on their way to making 65 with their allotted overs.
Jarrod Alty top scored with 33 runs, before being caught off Woorinen captain
Damien Mangiameli’s bowling.

Woorinen lost only three wickets in their 20
overs, but came up five runs short (60) of St Mary’s total. Taylor Cameron top
scored for his side, ending up not out for 38.

St Mary’s fielding was crucial
in keeping the Woorinen run chase at bay, with the first wicket arriving from a
run out from Jesse Alty, then came catches from Joel Clohesy and Deon
Lever.

Under 14

A CLASH of the titans is set for this weekend’s grand
final after St Mary’s Tyntynder and Sea Lake Woomelang convincingly won their
respective semi-finals at the weekend.

At Ken Harrison Reserve Northern
Razorbacks won the toss and sent their opponents St Mary’s in who claimed 148
runs off 40 overs.

Top scorer Austin McKerrow made 63 batting at number
three, forming a few valuable partnerships.

Josh Wooding, Darcy Conway and
Riley McNab all took two wickets each for the Razorbacks, but 45 extras for the
side proved costly.

The Razorbacks hit back bravely in their 40 overs making
80 runs and conceding nine wickets.

Captain Jackson Gordon top scored with 17
at number two, and was still standing not out at stumps.

St Mary’s bowling
attack came from all angles, with seven players taking at least one wicket.
Cooper Fox had the best bowling figures with 2/3 off four overs, while Brady
Fordham took two catches in the field.

Meanwhile, Sea Lake Woomelang and RSL
played their semi-final at Woorinen Recreation Reserve.

RSL won the toss on
Saturday and sent Sea Lake into bat who made it look easy, batting out 206 and
losing four wickets on the way.

Opening batsman Liam McClelland reached a
half century (51) before retiring, while top-scorer Jake Nelson (53) and C
Noonan (33) also boosted their team’s total.

RSL bowlers Alexander Ralph,
Jack Charlson and Ryan Walsh each took a wicket, but overall the team leaked 50
extras.

RSL came out swinging but were bowled out for 126 in their 35th over.
Opening batsman T McGregor was not out for 21, while Sam Coffey top scored with
27.

Sea Lake’s Patrick Barry had the best bowling figures, taking three
wickets off RSL’s top and tail while conceding just seven runs
