WOORINEN enjoyed the most commanding performance in Swan Hill District Cricket Association Round 7 action on Saturday.
The Tigers’ blasted 188 to easily account for Nyah District in the SHDCA’s big triple header. Other winners were RSL and St Mary’s Tyntynder.
Blues def UTUF
RSL proved too strong for Ultima TUF in Saturday’s game at Alan Garden Memorial Reserve.
The visitors batted first, compiling a strong total of 132 in the second round of Twenty 20 matches.
Blues boss and newly-appointed SHDCA Country Week captain Ryan Hinton had a good run at the top of the order scoring 48, before being bowled by Jesse McMahon.
Brenton Gurnett chipped in with 25, while Duane Bruton also managed 21 for the Blues.
McMahon was the pick of the UTUF bowlers with four wickets, but the RooDogs’ batsmen fell well short of the required total.
Andrew Merrett top-scored with 18 for TUF but the home side could only manage 62.
Jack Cook was RSL’s best bowler with figures of 4-10 off just three overs.
Tigers def Demons
WOORINEN was too strong for Nyah District at the showgrounds on Saturday.
The Tigers’ top-order sparkled with Dean Morpeth hitting 41, Glenn Violi knocking up 30 and Tim Free top scoring with 58 before being bowled by Mick Boulton.
Woorinen’s final tally of 188 was the best team total for the round.
In reply, Nyah lost both openers Dean Harrop and Kent Wooding for ducks, with Ritchie Boulton righting the ship to some extent with 45.
The early-wicket damage had been done, however, with Nyah continuing limply to 102.
Guri Singh, Josh Stone and Luke Crow all grabbed three wickets as Woorinen firmed as the SHDCA Twenty 20 favourite for 2014/15.
Saints def Swans
ST MARY’S Tyntynder was too strong for Swan Hill at the showgrounds.
The home side batted first and got off to a decent start thanks to Tom Lister’s 21.
Daniel Cruickshank’s 33 at second drop also proved helpful.
But the Swans’ final total of 87 was ultimately too hard to defend with St Mary’s Tyntynder getting over the line.
