DEFENDING premiers RSL treated themselves to a Halloween thrashing of Nyah District as the Swan Hill District Cricket Association A Grade competition heated up on Saturday.
The Blues responded to last week’s shock loss to St Mary’s Tyntynder by bowling out Nyah for 96 runs, picking up 149 for themselves in the first innings.
The win has put the champions back on track and RSL captain Brenton Caldwell said he was impressed with the way his side performed on the day.
“We all chipped in with scores as a team and it was good wrapping them up and putting them all out,” he said.
“Our kids stood up, it was a bit of a turn around and we took our chances this week.
“Nothing went right last week and everything went right on Saturday, we can’t complain.”
Disappointed with the loss, Nyah District captain Dean Harrop said his side need to focus on their game with the willow in hand.
“We got flogged you could say but we just didn’t play good enough,” he said.
“We played a lot of loose shots but full credit to them, we are really glad with how we how we fielded and bowled but we collapsed with the bat.
“We will have to do a lot better and continue to improve whether we win or lose… obviously we are disappointed but we just want to get better each week.”
Early in RSL’s innings, Nyah found success with the ball after taking an early wicket to set their opponents back 1/49, before a quick double had the Blues reeling at 3/77.
The home side were able to recover and kick on to make the runs required, eventually setting a formidable target.
Over at Ken Harrison Reserve, St Mary’s Tyntynder backed up their dominant performance from last week with a huge win over Woorinen.
Setting a respectable target of 123 for Woorinen, St Mary’s taught their opponents a lesson with the ball — bowling them all out for 35 after 14.5 overs.
The wickets fell fast for the away side who will now be left to pick up the pieces next week.
In the final match of the day, Swan Hill reached Ultima TUF’s target of 81 after bowling them all out.
After just 24.1 overs, Ultima were back on the field to try and stop the in form Swans.
They were unable to stop the batsman as the day ended with just 44.1 overs played in total.
