All-rounders the grand final key – St Mary’s Tyntynder

St Mary’s Tyntynder key player – Corey Daniels

COREY Daniels is one of the premier all-rounders in the competition.

Daniels was not just one of the best batsmen in the SHDCA but also one of its quickest bowlers.

Coming in at No.5 with the bat, usually after the top order has dominated, he is perfect at twisting the knife in tired bowling attacks.

That was not to say he can’t knuckle down – he was by no means a slogger, having one of the better techniques in the Saints’ side.

Capable of scoring very quickly and going large, he hit 126 not out against Swan Hill in February.

He scored the second most runs in A Grade cricket this season with 325 runs, averaging 54.17.

Saints skipper Nathaniel Holmes-Brown said Daniels was vital to his side.

“He’s pretty crucial to us, having been a big-time player in the competition for a long time,” he said.

“He’ll go out there and make a 50, then come straight back doing some damage with the ball.”

Holmes-Brown and Daniels formed a deadly opening bowling partnership this season, with the skipper’s line and length being perfectly complimented by Daniels’ sheer pace.

His ability to pick up wickets quickly will prove critical, with the Saints needing to get Bombers gun bat Greg Dickson out early.

“If we can break their opening stand early and get their best batsman in Greg Dickson in quickly, that would be unreal,” Holmes-Brown said.

“Corey’s ability to bat and bowl in all conditions definitely makes him one to watch.”
