Demons face Bombers in massive showdown

ONE-DAY ladder leaders Nyah District will be playing the first game of the year when they meet Wandella in what will be a massive showdown.

It will be the first time these two sides have faced off since the T20 grand final where the Demons proved too good for the Bombers.

Back in the first round of the 2024/25 season, Nyah District were yet again the better team against Wandella when they won by 95 runs at Nyah Recreation Reserve.

This weekend, it will be played at Riverside Park, which could be in the Bombers’ favour.

Nyah District have a five-game winning streak against Wandella, so the Bombers will be hoping to end the streak this weekend.

It will also bring in some much-needed points in the One Day competition for Wandella.

In the other match-ups this weekend, RSL will be on the road to face Barham-Koondrook.

Both sides have three wins and three loses, so whoever wins will be in a comfortable position in the top four.

Barham-Koondrook won the last time by four wickets in a pretty easy run chase at Gurnett Park.

The Raiders will be hoping to repeat that feat this weekend on their home turf, so they have a chance of making finals.

Barham-Koondrook co-captain Jayden Hall was a key asset in the bowling attack last time out, getting himself four wickets, while Mason Laursen and Warren Lolicato both got two wickets.

The Raiders other co-captain Garry Lolicato brought Barham-Koondrook home with his 75-run knock.

RSL will need to have a much better score to defend and get Garry Lolicato out early on to make sure they have a chance in winning this contest.

In the final contest for the week, Woorinen will be playing host to St Mary’s Tyntynder.

The Tigers are in second place in the one-day with four wins and two losses, while St Mary’s Tyntynder are in a lowly seventh place with only one win in the one-day competition.

Woorinen’s bowling attack was too good for the Bulldogs with six bowlers earning themselves a wicket, with Robert Rush the leading wicket taker with three wickets.

The batting was also pretty consistent with most batters contributing around 20 runs to earn themselves a rather comfortable win with four wickets in hand.

If the Tigers play in that consistent matter like they did in the first round, then they should be able to earn the six points and will have a comfortable gap in the top four.
