Creative craft, cooking and games keep kids busy in school holidays

TEN days of fun kept Swan Hill kids occupied, entertained and creative at Swan Hill Rural City Council’s vacation care program during the school holidays.

Held at Swan Hill Primary School art room, the program was chock full of fun art and craft, activities, games and yummy food.

The program kicked off with a Lego landmark building competition, yoga with Nat from Swan Yoga Bliss, pancakes and fruit for morning tea, and gym games in the afternoon.

The next day pizza was on the menu, followed by a visit to the Town Hall to see The Mik Maks, then some relaxing macramé feather making, and playing with sensory fairy snow.

Midweek, the kids learnt to make Thai fried rice, made characters from pipe cleaners and beads, had a mystery bag craft challenge, and danced with Miss Natasha from Strike A Pose.

Later they took a special excursion to Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery for clay play, following by an experimental afternoon with lemon batteries, and a “cloud in a jar” experiment.

Other activities through the holiday period included a talent show, chicken tender wraps, building a Lego volcano, Kick-to-Kick on the oval, and an excursion to the Art Gallery for ink washing.

Surrounded by paints and pieces of wood, young ones also had fun designing their own “unity badges” to celebrate NAIDOC Week.

With so many activities to exercise the mind, body, and creative soul, Swan Hill homes will be full of colourful craft and happy kids this winter.
