St Mary MacKillop College gets ready to rock

ST Mary MacKillop College students are polishing their production of School of Rock, which go on stage on August 18, 19 and 21 at the college’s Jubilee Centre.

This upbeat rock musical tells the story of Dewey Finn, a wannabe rock star who decides to earn a few extra bucks by posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious school.

There Dewey, played by Year 12 student Deaken Fawcett, turns a class of straight-A students into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band.

While teaching these pint-sized prodigies what it means to truly rock, Dewey falls for the school’s beautiful but uptight headmistress, played by Year 12 student Charlotte Oliver, helping her rediscover the wild child within.

More than 40 students from Years 7 to 12 are involved in the school production in cast roles, as band, in poster design, lighting design and operation, as sound technicians, in set construction, as backstage workers, and in photography and videography.

Tickets are available from the school’s front office, by calling 5032 9771, or at the door. Cost is $20 for adults, student and children $10, families $65.
