THERE have been a lot of different things happening at Nyah District Primary this term.
During August, Preparing For Prep sessions for next year’s Prep students were held each Friday, where children got to get an early taste of school life.
They took part in activities in the Grade Prep/1 classroom, getting involved in activities such as crafts, stories, games, music and a variety of other things.
Families are invited to come along to the school for Twilight ‘Preparing For Prep’ session on Thursday, September 8 from 5pm-6.30pm to see what the small community school can offer.
Students from all classes have recently submitted their entries for the Swan Hill Regional Library Young Writers Award. This year’s theme was ‘Smile’ and students came up with different story ideas. We look forward to seeing some of student entries shortlisted for judging by Laurel Harrison to be announced at the end of October.
Nyah District Primary School has been fortunate to have different sporting opportunities come their way. These include golf coaching clinics with the Nyah West Golf Club, athletic sports competing against Manangatang P-12 and Tooleybuc Central School, and being recently selected by SEDA college’s sports development coaching program to participate in a cricket session.
Parents and the local community continue to be involved in school activities. Father’s Day was celebrated with a breakfast cooked by the mums and special helpers. Also on this day, everyone came along dressed in their favourite teams footy colours, with the whole school then completing some fun footy activities conducted by the Nyah-Nyah West United Football Club.
The school has benefited greatly from being part of the MHiPS (Mental Health in Primary Schools) pilot program this year. Involvement in the program has allowed for teacher training in the area of mental health and wellbeing. Its focus is now on the implementation of school wide positive behaviour support within the school.
At the end of the term, students in Grades 2-6 will enjoy a school camp to Portsea. This will be the first time visiting the beach for many students. There are a range of activities planned including trail walks, flying fox and giant swing, team building exercises and a disco night.
