Discovering this best kept secret

ONE of Swan Hill’s best kept secrets is a small, independent primary school in a quiet and peaceful rural setting just eight minutes from the town centre.

Principal Kristy Wilson would love more families to discover what Son Centre Christian College has to offer for Prep to Grade 6 students.

“It’s our aim to deliver a Christ-centred education that sees our students engaged, equipped and empowered every day, whether in the classroom, playground or garden,” she explained.

“We have small class sizes and lots of staff members working with the kids, and all this outdoor space.

“It creates a peaceful atmosphere with lots of room for the students to run around.

“We are fully-equipped and keen to have more students.”

One feature of the school is their Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden.

“We are so proud of all our students at Son Centre who have invested their time and passion into the continued development of the kitchen garden,” Mrs Wilson said.

“From garden to plate, they have certainly wowed us with the creative and delicious dishes they have produced in the kitchen. This is an incredible program that has provided the inspiration, information, professional development and support for our teachers to deliver pleasurable food education to our students.”

The students have also taken possession of 15 new scooters, generously donated by a local family.

Son Centre is a community that prioritises caring for the well-being of each student. Class sizes are small, and staff members are passionate and experienced.

And, being located on the old golf course, the green space that is available for students to use and explore is vast.

Interested families are invited to visit the school on their next open day on Saturday, September 10, between 10am and 2pm.
