Kids can get active

SWAN Hill families can save $200 on children’s activities, swimming lessons, sports uniforms and fees thanks to the fifth round of the Victorian Government’s Get Active Kids Voucher Program.

Eligible families can apply for vouchers of up to $200 and use them at registered sporting clubs and activity providers.

The vouchers can be used to cover costs of equipment, uniforms and memberships across a range of activities from club cricket to dance classes.

Parents and carers of toddlers can also use the vouchers for learn-to-swim classes.

More than 58,000 vouchers were issued during the first four rounds of the program, with almost a quarter of the vouchers helping children join a sports club for the first time.

To be eligible a child must be 18 or under, a Victorian resident, named on a Commonwealth Health Care Card or pensioner concession card and named on a valid Medicare card.

Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence said clubs, associations and organisations could register to be a Get Active Kids Voucher Activity Provider.

Clubs and sporting organisations must be affiliated with a recognised state sporting association or the equivalent governing body to be eligible.

Special consideration is also available to support children living in Victorian care services, temporary or provisional visa holders, undocumented migrants and international students aged 18 and under.

“Every kid deserves the chance to play the sport they love with their friends, and this is about supporting them to do that, maybe for the first time,” Ms Spence said.

“We’re making community sport more accessible so that more kids can join their friends at local pools and sporting clubs.”

Applications close at 5pm on November 30, with families able to claim reimbursement for expenses already paid before the opening of the latest round of vouchers.
