School family gets together

WITH 13 new families being welcomed into the fold in 2023, the Beverford District Primary School’s meet-and-greet day was the opportune moment to bring the expanding community together.

Parents and grandparents joined students for a picnic with homemade sandwiches and, the popular order of the day, fast food.

Principal Phillip Cox said it was great to get everyone back together after pandemic disruptions.

“It’s something I’ve introduced since I came to the school,” Mr Cox said.

“Especially coming out of COVID, it’s imperative to have parents, grandparents, carers and friends out in the school because it builds the community and culture of our school.

“It’s good for them to look around at what their kids are doing, what their goals are for the year and celebrate their schooling triumphs.

“To be able to welcome in our new families, and make them part of the school community, is just fantastic.”

Before settling down for a picnic on the blistering Mallee day, the school announced the student leaders for 2023 and recognised hard-working students in an award ceremony.

With an influx of students not seen for a while in Beverford, it could have been a rowdy start to the year, but Mr Cox said the new students were transitioning into school life well.

“It’s been a really smooth start to the year – I’ve been amazed at how well the Preps have settled in – and all the classrooms are going well.

“We always have a friendly, easygoing behaviour at the school, which is no different this year.”
