Learning about our history

STUDENTS from Prep to Grade 6 at St Mary’s Primary School learned about our nation’s history last week in a fun and engaging manner.

The team from History Box taught the children about the First Fleet to the first Australians in a hands-on and fun way.

Students made clay artwork and played with toys from a bygone era.

Principal Kate Quin said this was part of the school’s history inquiry unit.

“To launch each of our units, we are having a visit from Barry and Cynda from the History Box incursions program,” she said.

“The students absolutely love these workshops.

“They are such an engaging way to learn about life in the past.”

The History Box travels to schools throughout Victoria and covers a wide range of Australian history topics aligned with the curriculum.

The Preps certainly loved figuring out how to use the toys their grandparents grew up with.
