Taste of culture for kids

LAKE Boga Primary School’s 63 students were excited to play a part of National Reconciliation Week.

Principal Marty Gray said it was a good opportunity for students to learn about the culture, the history and back story behind Lake Boga.“It’s really important for us to embrace all cultures so Reconciliation Week is an ideal opportunity to look at that with the kids,” he said.

“We decided to make use of our fire pit and make damper with the kids and cook it over the fire,” Mr Gray said.

Kitchen Garden and Science teacher Lauren Brawn said the school had just created a bush tucker garden with a Landcare Grant and they decided that a good way to pay homage to First Nation Peoples and their knowledge of the land was to incorporate the use of the ingredients from the garden and mixing them into damper.

“It is a great way to explore more of our Indigenous culture as we focus on bringing the two cultures together during the celebrations of Reconciliation Week,” Ms Brawn said

Year 5 student Lloyd, 10, said Reconciliation Week was all about coming together with friends and sitting around a fire.
