Young readers go wild

SWAN Hill Regional Library Service has announced the finale to another successful BIG Summer Read program.

Swan Hill libraries manager Camille Cullinan said the program, open to all young people aged up to 18, ran from December 1 last year to January 31.

“This year, our local libraries witnessed the participation of 195 children aged 5 to 17 years, collectively devouring an impressive 4050 books,” Ms Cullinan said.

To celebrate their dedication and enthusiasm, Swan Hill Regional Library will host a prize draw today at 4pm.

“Our prize draw promises an array of exciting prizes generously sponsored by local businesses, organisations, and clubs,” Ms Cullinan said.

“Prizes up for grabs include an Apple iPad, Apple Airpods, family passes to the Pioneer Settlement, gift cards, Lego sets, and more.

“Additionally, attendees who have completed and returned their BIG Summer Read reading logs will have the chance to win one of six lucky door prizes, each valued at $50.

Ms Cullinan said each year the BIG Summer Read is becoming more and more popular with children reaping the benefits of reading during the summer break.

“We’re thrilled to see the overwhelming response to the BIG Summer Read program,” she said.

“It’s a testament to the community’s commitment to nurturing a love for reading among our young people.

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our sponsors for their continuous support in making this program a

success.”

This summer all 49 public library services across Victoria took part, allowing children from all corners of the state to engage in reading during the summer holiday period.
