BEVERFORD Primary School has welcomed a lot of new families into its community this year and is always looking to welcome more.
Enrolments came across all grades and students can expect a range of school upgrades to be launched to the community in Term 2.
Mental health and wellbeing leader Kaiti Blackmore said the school had received a grant to upgrade the basketball court by resurfacing and adding splashes of colour to the design to make it visually appealing.
The library also got an overhaul with a complete clean out and reset of the layout and inventory.
The school welcomed eight new Prep students this year, bringing the school’s total enrolment to 31 from grades Prep to 6.
“Our foundation class is a straight class this year, which ensures we can focus more specifically on each student’s individual needs,” Mrs Blackmore said.
“We are continuing on with a wide range of subjects including sport, science and Auslan (sign language).
“The visiting library will continue to visit, providing an added boost to our own library resources and mental health and wellbeing will continue to remain a large focus.”
School leaders were also presented with their badges by Swan Hill Mayor Stuart King and a community meet-and-greet picnic where all families were invited along was a huge success.
“It was a really nice event for the whole community,” Mrs Blackmore said.
“It was a casual event held at lunchtime and students proudly showed some of the work they have been doing.”
Beverford also welcomed Miss Elford into a teaching role this year after she graduated her teaching degree and has now moved from her previous role of education support.
Already knowing the school well, Miss Elford has slipped seamlessly into her new role as classroom teacher for grades 4, 5 and 6.
Mrs Blackmore also praised the performance of the school’s T-ball team who recently had a win at the small school’s sports day.
“Students from grades 3 to 6 worked really well as a team and showed our school values of respect, resilience and responsibility,” she said.
“Our end-of-year school concert was also a huge success last year with a lot of hard work throughout the year being rewarded with the children excelling on the night and our families enjoying themselves.
“Word seems to be spreading about the benefits of small schools and we are easily accessible to children who live in Swan Hill via bus services, so families are noticing us as an attractive option for their children’s education.”
“Every day is an open day at Beverford and we welcome anyone wishing to come along and see what we are doing to simply make a call and book a personal tour.”
