Art classes for school children

STUDENTS with a passion for art now have the opportunity to expand their skills thanks to Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery’s after-school drawing classes.

The ongoing six-week program provides students with the opportunity to sharpen their artistic skills in a structured and engaging setting.

The course, designed for children aged nine and above, focuses on observational drawing techniques, encouraging participants to explore concepts such as tone, composition, and scale.

Under the guidance of experienced instructors, students are learning how to analyse subjects from different perspectives.

Whether magnifying the smallest details or visualising scenes from a different view.

Beyond pencil and graphite, students are introduced to various mark-making techniques, working with pen, charcoal, and wash to understand the qualities of different mediums.

The program aims to foster creativity and technical skills, equipping young artists with a foundation in artistic decision-making.

The response to the course has been positive with plenty registering their interest.

Swan Hill Regional Art gallery director Ian Tully said it is a great extracurricular activity for school kids to get involved in.

“It is another opportunity for kids to take their art passion and create pieces outside of the classroom,” he said.

“It is great for their skill development and creativity.

“The session will run for about an hour each Wednesday after school for six weeks.

“This won’t be just a one off either with more programs to continue across different semesters throughout the year.

“We invite all kids upwards of nine years old who are passionate about art to register their interest.”
