THREE concert professionals are looking forward to breaking a three-year dry spell at this Sunday’s classical concert at Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery.
An afternoon with the Three Ladies features pianist Chiaki Green, vocalist Rianne Quaife, and bassoonist Kate Dunstan.
“We are just really, really excited,” Ms Dunstan said.
“We had a rehearsal the other day and we are all mums now, so we had lots of kids running around. It was pretty funny to see how things have changed.”
Ms Dunstan says the bassoon requires plenty of physical work.
“It’s the biggest woodwind instrument, you have to have a strong lung capacity,” she said.
“It makes an interesting sound. It’s quite a fun, quirky instrument.”
Ms Dunstan has been playing bassoon since she was a child and has done various orchestral tours, which she has missed.
“Since I’ve moved to Swan Hill we don’t have an orchestra to tour with – the nearest one is Bendigo or Ballarat – so I miss having that creative outlet,” she said.
“There are a few players – but not at the level of a full symphony orchestra – which is why this is such a great opportunity for us and for the town.”
