At last its time for ABBA

SWAN Hill Theatre Group’s production of Mamma Mia! officially opens tonight (November 12), and director Karissa Box said she’s “incredibly thankful” to the cast and crew for sticking with the musical through the highs and lows.

“We’ve been working on it since last year and we’re just so excited to be able to perform for an audience,” Ms Box said.

“The opening and closing of the show has taken its toll, but the cast and crew have been fantastic and are so happy for Mamma Mia! to be on the stage.”

Describing the creative arts as “sorely missed” in Swan Hill, Ms Box said the cast and crew were still slightly nervous that something might happen at the last minute.

“But at the end of the day, we are looking forward to being able to get out there – finally, it’s going to happen!”

And the production is certainly guaranteed an audience, with the Memorial Theatre shows being sold out.

“People can still buy tickets to the Town Hall shows however, for the shows from November 24 to November 27,” Ms Box said.

“For COVID safety reasons we had to reduce capacity for the first two weeks of the show at Memorial Theatre, but we can have a much larger audience at the Town Hall.

“We’re thankful to the Swan Hill council for allowing us to use that space.”

Mamma Mia! is a musical based on ABBA’s hits, and follows the journey of Sophie, a young woman who is about to marry her fiance, and wants her father to walk her down the aisle.

The problem is her mother Donna is being cagey about who her father is, and after some sleuthing, Sophie narrows down her search to three possible candidates.

Deciding to invite the three men to the wedding to discover the truth, comedic hijinks ensue as the paternity mystery keeps everyone on their toes.

Tickets to the Swan Hill Town Hall performances of Mamma Mia! can be found via Trybooking, or the Town Hall can be contacted via phone: (03) 5036 2384
