Expressive Arts Program prepares for December show

SWAN Hill’s Expressive Arts Program participants are busy rehearsing for their December 16 concerts.

The two shows – an 11am matinee and 7pm evening show – will be open to the general public with tickets now available for purchase at the Town Hall.

The program, sponsored by Swan Hill’s Lions Club, allows those with a disability and a passion for the performing arts to get up on stage.

Now that this year’s performance has been confirmed, 21 actors and dancers have been rehearsing weekly.

And everyone is very keen following the cancellation of last year’s concert due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Program organiser Jeanette Young said it has been amazing to practice in the Town Hall and everyone is very keen to feature the best of the last six years’ shows.

“We had to change our program because we weren’t sure it would go ahead,” Ms Young said.

“We will be performing highlights from the last six performances, including the songs This is Me, Proud Mary, I’m a Believer and The Git Up.

“There are also some talking parts, but they’re shorter this year – as we usually write the production ourselves.”

Aliesha Langman, 36, is very excited to participate yet again – as she has each of the six years so far.

“My favourite part is the opening – This is Me,” Ms Langman said.

“I have a dancing and talking part and my family from Ballarat are going to come and watch – including my nanna, who is 100.”

Joanne Edera, 40, and Elijah Lahy, 19, also told The Guardian they are both super keen to show off their dancing skills after last year’s show was cancelled.

Kye King, Ms Young’s co-producer, leads a terrific group of performers in what is sure to be a highlight of the festive season.
