Little Shop of Horrors reopens

ST Mary MacKillop College students are finally getting the chance to perform their 2021 musical as restrictions ease.

Little Shop of Horrors was originally scheduled for August but the production was forced to postpone – until now.

The students will be back on the stage on December 7 and 8 at 7pm at the Jubilee Centre, Splatt Street, Swan Hill.

There will be plenty of catchy tunes throughout the performance thanks to a live band with staff and student talent on show, as audiences enjoy the cult classic.

Production co-ordinator and Swan Hill theatre identity Talia Henderson said the story would follow Seymour Krelborn, a nerdy orphan working at Mushnik’s, a Skid Row flower shop.

“Seymour has a fascination with strange plants and when he stumbles across one that he is unable to identify, surprising opportunities present themselves,” Ms Henderson said.

“He finds his chance for success and romance with the help of this giant man-eating plant who demands to be fed.

“Seymour has some tough decisions to make.”

Student stars from years 7 to 12 are keen to get back to the musical, which mashes up horror, comedy and rock with music by Alan Menken that takes everyone back in time.
