Students to thrill with ‘Little Shop of Horrors’

IT has been a team effort to get St Mary MacKillop College’s Little Shop of Horrors on the stage this December.

There will be 35 students participating in the two shows this coming Tuesday and Wednesday night, as members of the cast, crew, puppeteers, band members and designers.

Most of the initial rehearsals took place prior to the extended July lockdown with the production originally scheduled for mid-August.

Personal assistant to the deputy principal Senay Uzal said the team had luckily filmed dance routines allowing students to keep watching and rehearsing while at home in lockdown.

John Hoare will take on the starring role as Seymour Krelborn – a nerdy orphan working at Mushnik’s flower shop in urban Skid Row, while teacher Nathan Lane will voice the evil plant Seymour cares for.

The role of Audrey – Seymour’s friendly and shy co-worker – will be played by two students, Charlotte Oliver and Toni Mia Scalora, with Mathew Molloy playing grumpy Mr Mushnik and Justine Larona playing Audrey’s sadistic boyfriend Orin Scrivello.

Shakira Siggins, Eliza Everett and Trinity Sutton will play Crystal, Ronnette and Chiffon respectively – providing musical back-up to the production, while Ava Sarre will play Tiana.

Students have been expertly guided by production coordinator Talia Henderson and other staff including Rianne Quaife, Chiaki Green, Alison Wright, Nathan Lane, Damian Howison, Laura Crow and Mel Roberts.

Volunteers Sandra Scalora, Kate Dunstan, Mel Jones and Geoffrey Fawcett have also been a valuable asset as everyone prepares for the shows next week.

The public can finally see the work of this skilled team of thespians and musicians on December 7 and 8 at 7pm at the Jubilee Centre on Splatt Street, Swan Hill.

Tickets are available for both performances and can be purchased from the school’s front office or by calling 03 5032 9771
